Therapy for Depression

Depression is a painful, terrifying and lonely experience that robs you of the pleasure of life. It seems as if no one, not even you, understands why you feel the way you do. Though it may not seem possible now, there is relief that exists beyond the fog of depression. Through depression therapy and depression counseling, we’ll work through your depression together.

Signs of Depression:

  • Feeling physically and emotionally drained even after a night of rest
  • Inability to sleep or sleeping excessively
  • Avoiding contact and communication with others
  • Believing that your life has no point
  • Thoughts of hurting yourself or others

According to the Archives of General Psychiatry, approximately 14.8 million adult Americans are suffering from major depressive disorder during any given year. Based on statistics from the Center for Mental Health Services, U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services, an estimated 1 in 33 children and adolescents suffer from clinical depression.

Fortunately, depression is not something you must live with. You can make the choice to take steps to free yourself from depression. You deserve to enjoy all of the wonderful experiences life has to offer. When you are depressed, you often find yourself making excuses to avoid seeing friends and family. I have successfully helped hundreds of people emerge from depression during my 25 years as a Chapel Hill psychotherapist.

Chapel Hill Depression Counseling for Teens and Young Adults

Today’s teens are faced with an incredible amount of social pressure in addition to dealing with their changing bodies, brains, and hormones. The issues that teens and young adults face can sometimes be too overwhelming to manage, which can lead to a depressive episode. Through compassionate depression therapy, a competent psychotherapist can often offer immediate relief and long-term continued growth and development for the teen or young adult.

During depression therapy sessions, we begin working together to make positive daily changes to alleviate the depression and to bring back the laughter and fun that the teen years should have.

If you think your teen may be suffering from depression, please contact me. It is crucial for them to receive counseling now while we can break the cycle of depression early. Most teens I counsel for issues of depression appreciate having a place they can go to that is safe and accepting and where they can express their complex feelings and ideas.

Chapel Hill Depression Counseling For The Whole Family

When a family member is suffering from depression, the whole family suffers. It is almost as if that person has left the family — their personality is so different from what it used to be. Whether your wife is dealing with postpartum depression or your father is suffering with clinical depression, depression therapy sessions can help bring that person back to you.

Each depression therapy case I handle is extremely personal. No two sessions are alike because what works for one person or family will certainly not work for all. I concentrate on treating the whole person and the whole family to figure out what is truly the cause of the depression. We then work together to find a solution and enable you and your family to get some immediate relief and work towards long-term recovery.

If you think you might be suffering from depression or have a family member or teen that you suspect is depressed, please take advantage of my free 15-minute phone consultation or schedule a depression counseling session by calling  .
